EXT. BUNGALOW - UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - SAN DIEGO - AFTERNOON
외부. 방갈로 – 유니버시티 하이츠 – 샌디에이고 – 오후
The sun hangs in the afternoon sky.
햇빛이 오후 하늘에 걸려있다.
Levi, still in dress blues, walks up the sidewalk of a residential neighborhood in San Diego.
여전히 해병대 정복을 입은 리바이는 샌디에이고의 한 주택가를 따라 걸어간다.
The mixed houses and lots are small. Some are well kept while others are fenced and dilapidated.
이 동네의 집들은 작다. 몇몇은 깔끔하게 관리되어 있고 몇몇은 낡고 철조망으로 둘러싸여 있다.
Levi turns a corner and steps up to a SMALL CALIFORNIA BUNGALOW with patch of flowers in the tiny front yard.
리바이는 모퉁이를 돌아 작은 앞마당에 꽃이 심어진 작은 캘리포니아 방갈로(주택 타입)에 다다른다.
Levi KNOCKS ON THE DOOR.
리바이는 문을 두드린다.
A moment later the door opens and...

RENÉE, a young woman in her mid-twenties stands with her THREE-MONTH-OLD DAUGHTER in a BJORN CARRIER strapped to her chest. Deep in the weeds of newborn parenting, it’s clear she wasn’t expecting anyone.
르네이, 3개월된 딸을 아기띠에 맨 20대 중반의 젊은 여성이 나온다. 신생아를 키우는 일에 몰두한 그녀가 타인의 방문을 예상하지 못했다는걸 알 수 있다.
LEVI
Hello, Renée.
안녕, 르네이.
By her expression, it’s clear seeing Levi in uniform brings her mixed emotions.
정복을 입은 리바이를 본 그녀는 복잡한 감정이 교차하는 표정을 짓는다.
RENÉE
Levi...what...what are you doin’ here?
리바이... 여긴... 여긴 무슨 일로 왔어?
LEVI
I heard you had your baby.
네가 아이를 낳았다고 들었어.
Renée gazes down, smiling at the infant on her chest.
르네이는 아래를 내려다보며, 그녀의 가슴에 올린 아이에게 미소짓는다.
RENÉE
I sure did.
맞아.
Renée turns to the side so Levi can see her daughter’s little sleeping face.
르네이는 몸을 살짝 돌려 리바이가 딸의 잠든 얼굴을 볼 수 있도록 한다.
Levi speaks quietly, to not wake her...
아이를 깨우지 않도록 리바이가 조용한 목소리로 말한다...
LEVI
(re: the baby) 아이에게
Oh, man. Isn’t she something. Beautiful...
세상에. 아이가 정말... 아름답다...
Clearly in bliss with her child, Renée nods and kisses the top of her daughters head.
아이와 함께하는 행복으로 가득한 채, 르네이는 고개를 끄덕이고 딸의 머리에 입을 맞춘다.
RENÉE
(tender to her baby) 아이에게 부드럽게
You’re a keeper, aren’t ya, bug?
정말 보물같은 아이야. 그렇지, 아가?
LEVI
Can we talk a minute?
우리 잠깐 이야기할 수 있을까?
Renée’s smile fades as she looks at Levi. She pauses, clearly considering...
리바이를 보는 르네이의 미소가 옅어진다. 그녀는 고민하는 듯 잠시 머뭇거린다...
RENÉE
Levi, I can’t invite you inside. I got a new baby. My husband’s at work. I’m not going to explain to him what my ex was doing in the house...
리바이, 널 집 안으로 초대할 수는 없어. 아기도 있고, 남편은 지금 일하러 나갔어. 내 전 남친이 우리 집에 뭘 하러 온건지 남편한테 설명하고 싶지 않아.
Levi looks at her and nods.
리바이는 그녀를 보고 고개를 끄덕인다.
LEVI
How about we talk outside?

EXT. YARD - BUNGALOW - MOMENTS LATER
외부. 방갈로 마당 – 잠시 후
Renée, Levi, and the baby sit on a picnic blanket in a small, postage-stamp yard.
르네이, 리바이, 그리고 아기는 좁은 뜰에 돗자리를 깔고 앉아 있다.
Renée holds her baby, now awake, upright on her lap.
르네이는 깨어나 무릎 위에 똑바로 앉은 아이를 잡고있다.
The child’s eyes track a iridescent HUMMINGBIRD darting from a sugar-water feeder to the flowers planted in the yard.
아이의 시선이 설탕물 급식기에서 정원에 심어진 꽃들로 재빨리 날아다니는 무지개빛 벌새를 쫓는다.
LEVI
I’ll be gone at least a year.
나 적어도 1년은 나가있을거야.
RENÉE
Where?
어디로?
LEVI
Honestly, I don’t know. Mission details are classified. They didn’t tell me much of anything.
솔직히 나도 몰라. 임무 내용이 기밀이라. 다른 정보도 받은게 아무것도 없어.
RENÉE
They’re making you go?
강제로 가는거야?
Levi shakes his head.
리바이는 고개를 젓는다.
LEVI
No. They gave me the choice.
아니. 선택권을 주긴 했어.
RENÉE
I didn’t think they did that.
해병대에서 선택권을 주는 줄은 몰랐는데.
He looks at her.
그는 그녀를 바라본다.
LEVI
They don’t.
안 주지.
Levi sets an MANILA BUSINESS ENVELOPE on the blanket.
리바이는 담요 위에 마닐라(노란색) 서류 봉투를 올려놓는다.
RENÉE
(re: the envelope) 봉투를 보며
What’s that?
그게 뭐야?
LEVI
Some paperwork I want you to have...
네가 받아줬으면 하는 서류들이야...
Renée shoots him a questioning look.
르네이는 혼란스러운 표정으로 그를 바라본다.
LEVI (CONT'D)
I named you as my beneficiary. You’ll get my veterans benefits, pension, and death pay...
너를 수혜자로 지정했어. 퇴역 군인 혜택, 연금, 사망 보험금을 받게 될거야.
Renée makes a face and shakes her head.
르네이는 얼굴을 구기며 고개를 젓는다.
LEVI (CONT'D)
It’s all set. You don’t have to do anything...
이미 다 정해졌어. 넌 아무것도 안 해도 돼.
RENÉE
Levi, I don’t want your money...
리바이, 난 네 돈 필요 없어...
He looks at her.
그가 그녀를 바라본다.
LEVI
Look, it’s not a lot, but if something happens...
많은건 아니지만, 무슨 일이라도 생기면...
Renée looks at him, cutting him off.
르네이가 말을 자르며 그를 본다.
RENÉE
Levi...what is this? What am I supposed to say?
리바이... 지금 뭐 하는거야? 내가 무슨 말을 해주길 바라는거야?
LEVI
Renée, come on...
르네이, 그러지 말고...
Levi motions to her baby.
리바이가 그녀의 아이를 가리킨다.
LEVI (CONT'D)
I just thought if something happens, you know...you guys could use the money. I don’t have anybody else. You know that.
무슨 일이라도 생기면, 너희가 필요할 때 도움이 될거라고 생각했어. 나한테 다른 가족은 없는거, 너도 알잖아.
She looks at him with a hint of softness...
그녀는 조금 부드러운 표정으로 그를 바라본다.
RENÉE
Levi...you don’t have me.
리바이... 나도 네 가족은 아니잖아.
Levi pauses, nodding.
리바이는 침묵하고 고개를 끄덕인다.
LEVI
I know. I know that. And maybe...if things would have been different...
알아. 나도 알지. 그리고 만약... 상황이 달랐더라면...
RENÉE
(sternly cutting him off) 단호하게 그의 말을 끊으며
Don’t. Just...don’t. (pause) Levi, we cared about each other once. I’m not denying that. But you’re messed up. You’re all full of monsters. You scare me.
그만해. 그냥... 그렇게 말 하지 마. (잠시 침묵) 리바이, 우리가 한 때 서로를 아꼈다는걸 부정하려는건 아니야. 하지만 넌 망가졌어. 네 안은 괴물로 가득해. 난 네가 무서워.
Renée holds her baby’s little hands in hers...
르네이는 아이의 작은 손을 잡는다...
RENÉE (CONT'D)
(re: her baby) 아이를 보며
I never could have done...this...with you.
난 이걸... 절대로 할 수 없었을거야... 너랑은 말이야.
Levi pauses, then nods silently.
리바이는 잠시 침묵하고는 조용히 고개를 끄덕인다.
LEVI
I understand.
이해해.
Renée is about to say something more, when her baby STARTS TO CRY...
르네이가 뭔가 말을 하려는 순간, 아이가 울음을 터뜨린다...
RENÉE
I...I need to feed her.
이제... 애기 밥 줘야해.
Levi nods and stands, INTENTIONALLY LEAVING THE ENVELOPE ON THE BLANKET.
고개를 끄덕인 리바이는 자리에서 일어서면서 의도적으로 돗자리 위에 봉투를 그대로 둔다.
Renée tries to hand the envelope back to him but he shakes his head.
르네이가 봉투를 돌려주려 하지만 그는 고개를 젓는다.
LEVI
(re: the envelope)
Keep it.
가져.
Renée starts to say something but Levi cuts her off...
르네이가 말을 꺼내려 하자 리바이가 그녀의 말을 끊는다.
LEVI (CONT'D)
Please.
부탁이야.
She nods.
그녀는 고개를 끄덕인다.
RENÉE
Okay.
알겠어.
Levi looks at Renée and her child.
리바이는 르네이와 그녀의 아이를 본다.
LEVI
I’m happy for ya, Renée.
축하해, 르네이.
Renée watches Levi as he steps off the lawn and disappears down the sidewalk.
르네이는 잔디를 벗어나 인도를 따라 걸어가는 리바이의 모습을 바라본다.

Pigeons cull in the early morning chill.
비둘기떼가 이른 아침의 추위 속에서 모여든다.
DRASA, a young woman in her twenties, smokes a cigarette while watching the sun rise over Cathedral Square in old town Vilnius.
20대 초반의 젊은 여성인 드라사는 담배를 피우며 빌뉴스 구시가지에 위치한 대성당 광장으로 해가 떠오르는 걸 지켜본다.
Her hair cut short, clad in a black leather jacket, with a LION tattooed on her neck...Drasa sits alone on the polished granite base of a TOWERING MONUMENT.
짧은 헤어컷을 한 그녀는 검은 가죽 재킷을 입고 있으며, 목에 사자 문신이 있다. 드라사는 우뚝 솟은 기념비의 반들반들한 화강암 받침대에 홀로 앉아있다.
Cast in bronze high above her, the 14th century Grand Duke Gediminas, the pagan founder of Vilnius, is depicted as a towering black rider, gripping the blade of his sword in one hand and reins of his armored horse in the other.
14세기 빌뉴스의 이교도 창립자인 대공 게디미나스가 청동으로 주조되어 그녀 위에 높이 서 있다. 그는 한 손에는 검의 날을 쥐고 다른 손에는 갑옷을 입은 말의 고삐를 잡은 채 우뚝 선 검은 기사의 모습으로 묘사되어 있다.
Lost in thought, Drasa takes a final drag, exhaling smoke into the cold morning air. She crushes the cigarette tip between her fingers extinguishing it.
생각에 잠긴 듯, 드라사는 마지막으로 담배를 태우고는 차가운 아침 공기에 담배 연기를 뱉어낸다. 그녀는 손가락으로 담배 끝을 꾹 눌러 끈다.
EXT. PILIES STREET - VILNIUS - LATER
외부. 필리에스 거리 – 빌뉴스 – 나중
With TWO CUPS OF TAKEAWAY COFFEE in her hands, Drasa walks up the medieval cobblestones of Pilies Street as the morning cafes come to life.
테이크아웃 커피 두 잔을 든 채, 드라사는 아침 카페들이 살아나는 필리에스 거리의 중세시대 돌바닥을 따라 걷는다.
Somewhere in the distance we can hear an ACCORDION playing a mournful song.
어딘가에서 슬픈 노래를 연주하는 아코디언 소리가 들린다.
EXT. PASSAGEWAY - CONTINUOUS
외부. 좁은 골목 – 잠시 후
As Drasa turns down a narrow passageway, the sound of the music grows louder.
드라사가 좁은 골목으로 꺾어 걸어가자, 노랫 소리가 점점 커진다.
Rounding a bend in the passageway we see ERIKAS, a STREET MUSICIAN in his fifties, sitting in a doorway playing his instrument.
굽은 골목을 돌면 50대 중반의 거리 음악가인 에리카스가 문가에 앉아 악기를 연주하고있다.
There’s a cluster of EMPTY WINE BOTTLES and CIGARETTE BUTTS on the ground surrounding him. It’s clear he’s been there playing all night.
그의 주변에는 빈 와인병과 담배꽁초가 널려있다. 그가 밤새 연주했다는 걸 알 수 있다.
Erikas’ graying hair is matted. His skin is deep red from years of alcohol abuse and sun exposure...but he plays beautifully.
에리카스의 회색빛 머리칼은 엉켜있다. 그의 피부는 수년간의 알코올 남용과 햇빛 노출로 인해 짙은 붉은색이 되었다...하지만 그는 아름답게 연주한다.
As Drasa approaches, Erikas sees her and GRINS.
드라사가 다가오자 그녀를 본 에리카스가 미소짓는다.
MID-NOTE, ERIKAS INSTANTLY CHANGES THE SAD SONG HE IS PLAYING TO A PLUCKY, JOYFUL TUNE TO PUNCTUATE HER ARRIVAL.
연주 도중, 에리카스는 자신이 연주하던 슬픈 노래를 즉시 그녀의 등장을 강조하는 발랄하고 즐거운 곡조로 바꾼다.
Drasa smiles at her whimsical musical score and sits down in the doorway beside him.
드라사는 기발한 선율에 미소를 지으며 그의 옆 문가에 앉는다.
She hands him one of the coffees.
그녀는 들고있던 커피 중 하나를 그에게 건넨다.
DRASA
(in Lithuanian, subtitled)
Three sugars.
설탕 세 개 넣었어.
Erik smiles and sets his instrument aside.
에릭은 미조시으며 악기를 내려놓는다.
DRASA (CONT'D)
(raising her coffee cup) 커피컵을 들어올리며
To music.

They touch their paper coffee cups together in toast.
그들은 종이로 된 커피 컵으로 건배한다.
ERIKAS
(in Lithuanian, subtitled)

Erikas has a deep gravely voice as he speaks.
에리카스는 낮고 거친 목소리로 말한다.
ERIKAS (CONT'D)

Where have you been, little Lion? I haven’t seen you in weeks...
어디 있던거니, 우리 작은 사자? 몇 주 동안 못 봤잖아.
DRASA

I was called to a briefing in Moscow.
브리핑 받으러 모스크바에 갔었어.
Erikas makes a distasteful face as he easily pivots to speaking English with a thick Lithuanian accent...
에리카스는 얼굴을 찌푸리며 리투아니아 악센트가 강한 영어로 이야기한다.
ERIKAS
(in English)
A briefing in Moscow? (a pause) Fuck Moscow!
모스크바에서 브리핑? (잠시 멈춤) 빌어먹을 모스크바!
Drasa smiles, looking at the haggard man. She tenderly tucks a tuft of scruffy graying hair out of his face.
드라사는 수척한 사내를 보며 미소짓는다. 그녀는 그의 헝크러진 회색 머리칼을 부드럽게 정리해준다.
DRASA
(in English)
Daddy, I’m leaving.
아빠, 나 떠나야 해.
Erikas looks at her.
에리카스가 그녀를 본다.
ERIKAS
Leaving? But your birthday is coming soon. Who...who will make your birthday dinner?
떠난다니? 하지만 곧 네 생일이잖아. 누가... 누가 네 생일 저녁을 만들어 주겠니?
She smiles at him warmly.
그녀는 따뜻한 미소를 지어보인다.
DRASA
I came to say goodbye to you.
작별 인사 하려고 왔어.
There’s a silence as Erikas absorbs the moment.
에리카스가 그 순간을 받아들이는 동안 침묵이 흐른다.
ERIKAS
It’s the way it should be. Vilnuis is too small for a lion like you.
그게 맞는거겠지. 빌뉴스는 너처럼 큰 사자에게는 너무 작아.
Erikas looks at his daughter.
에리카스는 그의 딸을 바라본다.
ERIKAS (CONT'D)
Drasa, your life is your life. You...are yours. Some poor fuckers never understand that. But you...you’ve known it since birth. Whatever you do...whatever your path, I will love you without judgement, like you have loved me.
드라사, 네 인생은 네 인생이야. 너는 너만의 거고. 그걸 평생 이해 못하는 불쌍한 놈들도 있지만 너는... 넌 태어날 때부터 알고 있었어. 네가 무얼 하든... 네가 무슨 길을 걷든, 난 무조건 널 사랑한단다. 네가 날 사랑해 준것처럼 말이야.
Drasa touches her father’s leathery face.
드라사는 아버지의 거친 얼굴을 매만진다.
ERIKAS (CONT'D)
But you listen to me now and you listen well...you beware the invitation to dinner, where the main course is you. 하지만 이건 꼭 명심하거라... 네가 메인 코스가 될 저녁식사 초대를 조심하렴.
